Kurt Poppe
Classical music and in particular Johann Sebastian Bach's
organ compositions have influenced Kurt Poppe's musical
development from the beginning.
At the age of eleven Kurt took piano lessons.
In 1972 he joined his first band called ENGERLING,
a cover rock band mainly playing songs from
DEEP PURPLE, SANTANA and URIAH HEEP.
During the following years he was inspired by THE BEATLES, PROCOL HARUM, THE STRAWBS, PINK FLOYD, YES, ELP and of course GENESIS.
From 1975 to 1977 he played the keyboards at ZENTURIO,
another cover rock band having a lot of gigs
in the southern parts of Germany.
In 1977 he left ZENTURIO. He played piano in clubs,
pubs and participated in several music projects.
In 1983 he started his music studies in Weingarten,
the same university Wolfgang Vollmuth studied music
at the same time. So it was just a question of time
until Wolfgang Vollmuth and Kurt Poppe got to know
each other, discovering their common interest in
progressive rock music. In 1987 Kurt Poppe joined
AMENOPHIS and a couple of months later they started
test recordings for the You & I project.
For a short time in 2005 he was the keyboarder of DRAMAGOLD,
a band in the southwest of Germany, together with Rolf Gentner, a former member of BELLYBUTTONS. He has played and arranged new songs with this German speaking band in the style of ELEMENT OF CRIME. This excursion into the nonprogressive world of music was an interesting experience for him.
